RARE POKÉMON
INFORMATION + GUIDE
There are numerous species of Pokémon that exist in the world today—well over six-hundred varieties, and that's only a rough estimate. Each and every day, brand new and utterly fascinating kinds of Pokémon are on the brink of discovery.
Yet there are some Pokémon out there that are so impossibly elusive, so unbelievably rare that their very existences are thought to be illusory by their very nature. Others are recorded prominently throughout mankind's history, spanning the ages in the form of countless stories and folktales passed down from generation to generation. Even then, a few species are just notoriously difficult to encounter out in the wild. Not without a little luck, anyway.
These are not just rare Pokémon—they're unbelievably special.
Legendary Pokémon is a special classification reserved for specimens who are prominent figures in mankind's mythology, often represented as natural spirits, enormous constructs, living personifications, or even omnipotent deities. Some of these Pokémon have also been proven to be the product of human interference: man-made entities of cold, heartless science that have exceeded all expectations and, in a cruel twist of fate, rebelled against their creators.
Mythical Pokémon are specimens that are classified as such due to their highly illusive natures; these particular creatures are so frustratingly rare that they are often believed to be singular in their nature or, to the more cynically inclined, a very mirage in and of itself. It is a well-known urban legend amongst newbie Trainers that encountering one of these deceptively hard-to-find Pokémon requires a truly pure heart.
Endangered Pokémon are a species that have been officially recognized as a threatened population by the Pokémon Rangers' Association and are generally placed under protective watch until their numbers are allowed to naturally replenish themselves. Such Pokémon are typically found in wildlife preserves like the various Safari Zones or the Great Marsh, and are very scarcely encountered. Breeders are usually required to follow certain legal guidelines in order to gain explicit permission to breed an Endangered Pokémon.
Only Endangered Pokémon are eligible for capture by Trainers: those classified as Legendary or Mythical will not bow to the whims of human beings and are thus unobtainable by normal means. The only instance where a Legendary or Mythical Pokémon will follow a Trainer's orders is if that Trainer is either possessed of a pure or virtuous heart, or if the two share an almost identical temperament with each other.
That being said, a Legendary or Mythical Pokémon will not feel beholden to humans, and will choose to leave of their own accord. It is also possible for them to completely turn against their human partner if they attempt to exploit or take advantage of the Pokémon's incredible power for themselves. Woe to those who attempt such a suicidal move.
