history
• Selena Blackwood is one of many surviving descendants of a long-lived clan of Onmyōji who hails from the Johto region. As such, she was exposed to a variety of different rituals and procedures involving the mystical arts of Onmyōdō, including their acclaimed divination skills.
• In her adolescence, Serena desired dearly to be like other girls her age and socialize with the outside world—but family tradition decreed that she was to spend her life fulfilling the duties that were expected of them all, from the day she was born to the moment she died. Fearing the abrupt and unlawful termination of her future hopes and dreams, Selena began using the supernatural powers at her disposal to forge the path that would lead to her escaping a life of unwanted servitude.
• Nearly ten years of painstakingly meticulous social engineering and planning in part through her divining abilities, allowed Selena to finally achieve her independence in full—but at a terrible price. Desiring emancipation from the clan, Selena bravely confronted her father, the clan's head Onmyōji, and requested that she be allowed to pursue her future as she saw fit. In reply, he cast her out of the family in exile for refusing to live up to what was expected of her, and for bringing shame to their ancestors.
• With nowhere else to turn to and nothing to lose, Selena looked to her future with a smile, and set sail for the metropolitan region of Unova, where she made port at Virbank City and immediately fell in love with the small port town. Through hard work, persistence, and a little womanly charm on her part, she was able to not only establish herself financially and obtain full regional citizenship, but had also succeeded in opening up her very own nightclub and bar, a place she affectionately christened "The Black Mareep".
• Upon her inoculation into the Pokémon League as a Gym Leader, Selena's newly improved paycheck allowed her to make drastic renovations to her beloved club, transforming it into the swinging place it is today, both as a place to live it up and an area to battle it out—a true, judgement-free zone.
