PERKS
what makes you special?
Perks are a broad term used to describe the various talents, abilities, skills, and gifts that all Pokémon Trainers possess. They can range from anything that involves their aptitude for battles, their prowess in training, their knowledge of Breeding, or even their potential for Pokémon Contests. Everyone has something unique about their character that sets them apart from the rest — and that's where Perks come into play.
All character classes begin with a set number of perks depending on the classes themselves, with Trainers beginning with two, and Breeders and Coordinators starting with only one. Certain "advanced" classes will provide their own, individual perks in addition to the ones your character already possesses, making for an even more formidable force to be reckoned with. The perks themselves are designed entirely by the player—you have full discretion as to what this entails.
The perks themselves, though, are typically minor in their nature and will often provide a very slight, albeit noticeable advantage to a character when applied properly. No matter what they are, all of them will be categorized into one of the four categories listed below. Bear these archetypes in mind when determining where and how to best categorize a certain perk:
Battling perks, as a general rule of thumb, typically involve improving a Pokémon's performance in a battle environment, and will often incorporate elements that capitalize on aspects such as their personal parameters (Attack, Defense, etc.), their Type, innate Abilities, and a myriad of other factors that will help to add further benefits to a Pokémon's capacity for combat.
Training perks will usually involve a Trainer's capacity to raise and handle Pokémon, both in-battle and outside, and thus subsequently incorporates all aspects of professional Breeding into the mix. How a Pokémon gains experience, evolution, move learning potential, and a whole slew of other properties regarding the way Pokémon grow and develop are covered under these types of perks.
Coordination perks place heavy emphasis on a Trainer's ability to synchronize and work together with their Pokémon, and thus tends to encompass elements that appeal specifically to Pokémon Coordinators. A Pokémon's willingness to listen to commands, engage in teamwork, and their general ability to trust their Trainer all falls under this category.
Unique perks are those that do not necessarily fall under any one of the three above categories, and often involves miscellaneous aspects of a Trainer's life that can manifest itself in a number of ways, from a natural talent for capturing Pokémon or an increased tendency towards earning money to something far more personal, like skill in the martial arts or a knack for infiltrating certain grades of security. The options for this category are truly limitless.
