CONTESTS
INFORMATION + GUIDE
Pokémon Contests are a different type of competition that serves as a stark contrast to the more aggressive, adrenaline-pumping action that one may find in a Pokémon battle. These are the designated tests of skill and spirit for Pokémon Coordinators: individuals who have chosen a life of style over substance, those who devote their ambition to the pursuit of everlasting glory on the stage, to be forever immortalized as masters of grace, elegance, and refinement.
In the core series of video games, Contests were divided into five, separate categories: Cuteness, Cleverness, Toughness, Coolness, and Beauty. Here on Global League, however, to win a Pokémon Contest, one must rely solely on their skill and attentiveness to detail as a roleplayer, as any move can be construed as beautiful, cool, cute, tough-looking, or even intellectually creative when roleplayed using the imagination.
Upon showing a panel of judges what you and your Pokémon are capable of over the span of two rounds, only the best and most perfectly harmonized Coordinator and their Pokémon will be awarded the winner's Contest Ribbon as a commemoration of their monumental achievements on the stage.
Pokémon Contests differ from the standard Gym Challenge in that a Coordinator must first have the proper credentials necessary for attending certain Contests. Each event that is hosted is preceded by a Rank, ascending from Normal Rank, to Super, then Hyper, and finally Master Rank.
As long as the Coordinator meets the registration requirements, they are free to participate in a Contest. Any Coordinator may take part in a Normal Rank Contest, but only those who have claimed the Contest Ribbon may ascend to Super Rank, repeating the process until they are finally qualified to participate in the prestigious Master Rank Contests, where only the best of the best Coordinators may show off their Pokémon to an audience eager for peerless resplendence.
All Contests are broken down into two, separate rounds; the first of these being the Appeal Round. During this time period, Coordinators will demonstrate their Pokémon's entire repertoire of known moves with the aim of displaying the best solo performance. Each move may only be performed once during the Appeal Round, so do your best to make it count!
What can be accomplished is limited only by your imagination: Coordinators often have their Pokémon perform tricks or a choreographed maneuver of sorts, but it is not uncommon to see some of the more flamboyant Coordinators harmonize with their Pokémon through creative and innovative means.
The Appeal Round ends when all Coordinators have finished their routines.
Upon the conclusion of the Appeal Round, each Coordinator will be paired off against one another in a tournament-style bracket to determine who amongst them can display the best teamwork skills and show off their Pokémon's full splendor.
Full-on aggression and overt violence is frowned upon during the Battle Round; to win this stage of the Contest is not a test of strength or skill, but of grace and elegance. Only the most skilled Coordinators are able to win a Battle Round without resorting to one's primitive battling instincts.
The Battle Round ends when only one Coordinator is left standing.
Contest Ribbons are bestowed to Coordinators who have displayed exemplary finesse and teamwork skills, and are awarded based on what the judges perceive the Pokémon as being representative of throughout their performance. Ribbons also carry the Rank of the Pokémon Contest the Coordinator claimed victory over, and serve as the verification they need to participate in higher leveled events.
Cute Ribbons denote a Pokémon who has captured the hearts of the audience with its adorable charm; Clever Ribbons depict Pokémon with a highly analytical, sometimes inventive approach to their technique; Tough Ribbons mark a Pokémon that resonates brawniness and raw power; Cool Ribbons represent a Pokémon with an unparalleled sense of style and flair behind them; and Beautiful Ribbons are found on Pokémon that exist as the very personifications of elegance and grace themselves.
